There definitely would have been a similar situation if things were reversed. At least it's all done in good humor from both sides and they both know it.

Jean is thankful she doesn't ask what he's eating - and that he's almost done with eating the bread anyway. He notices the clothes she's wearing, a small blush forming on his face again as he realizes it's the ones he bought.

"Looks like the clothes were the right size... good." He smiles at her before turning back to the pans. "How many eggs do you want?"

What is humor and does she really have any sense of that?

Mikasa doesn't notice his blush at first because she is looking into another direction but then he says that about the clothes and there's a beat before she looks at Jean.

"Yeah. They're great. Thank you." She really likes them! Even though it's all said in an apathetic tone and with that look on her face too. She turns back to doing whatever she is doing... How many? "Whatever works."

That's ... Not a good answer at all.

"No problem." Yeah, that apathetic look is something that really worries him. While some might think it's just normal Mikasa behavior, it definitely isn't. But... it's still only been a few days. Maybe she'd improve.

'But Eren and Armin aren't here, she's not going to improve. You're not good enough to save her.' Thanks brain, he doesn't need that inner voice. Luckily, it doesn't show in the surroundings because Jean is instead of focusing on being annoyed at Mikasa's answer. So very helpful there!!

(Or perhaps the coldness of the thought and the warmth of annoyance just null one another.)

"Just say a number between zero to three. It's not that hard."

Jean, Jean, Jean... It may be the best thing for her ever to be away from them, she just doesn't know it but it might certainly help to see anything else in the world around her. And maybe it would be great for her to move on from a certain someone, good luck with that though.

Either way, she's going to buy an outfit to him one day to thank for this but Mikasa doesn't say anything about that.

"Three." It stings because she's from a group of three but this is talking about healthy things to eat for someone, who trains a lot, so of course she goes with that!

It's a thought he's not had yet, but one he might in time. Maybe then he will stop being focused on how he's not Eren or Armin and can't help.

Jean nods, calming down now that he has a clear answer. He continues in the progress of making food. Something he's pretty good at it seems.

"I wasn't sure what you wanted to eat, so I just decided to make something really simple." Which is mostly Scrambled eggs with vegetables. Simple.

"...Anything works, you should think what you want to eat and I can eat that too."

She's not picky! But she could appreciate his way of thinking about what she wants if she ... cared at the moment anyway. Either way, she's done with chopping the veggies, she's bringing them closer to him and he can tell her where to put them.

"I wouldn't do food I don't want to eat, too", Jean assures her as he makes way for her so she can put the veggies into the pan now.

"We could start making lists of things to eat..." It's just one idea... And yes, she puts the veggies in.

"Why not. We can increase it as we find new things that we enjoy." He continues to cook once the veggies are in. "It won't take too long so want to get the plates out?"

"That's obviously the whole point of a list like that... Ummm, not that I mind only eating whatever you can make now." She could eat just one thing or a couple of things through her whole life, no problem, but they really don't have to do that here. "Mm, I'll get them ready."

Plates, glasses, everything, she's going to do that now.

"Oh, uh, yeah." Jean blushes a bit over saying something so obvious. He silently focuses on finishing the food before delivering it over to the table.
