⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Jean Kirstein
Age: 15
Canon: Attack on Titan
Canon Point: Chapter 72, on top of the wall just before they leave for Shiganshina

Background: Wiki link.

Personality: Jean is a very honest and outspoken person. He doesn't have a problem with telling his opinion, however blunt they may be. Sometimes he tells his opinion at the risk of getting into trouble or making things around him even more complicated. That just means he thinks his opinions are important enough to be voiced, even if they would be different from the general ones. The opinions are sometimes even important enough to cause a plain old fist fight. Jean shows his temperament whenever he's arguing with someone near his own status and is not above using violence to sort things out.

Despite his occasional temperamental problems, Jean is still what you'd consider a natural leader. As his friend, Marco, described, Jean is not a very strong person, so he's able to relate to how the weak feel. That helps him give out commands and advice as he knows how people would possibly react to them. He's been shown to take control of a desperate situation, such as other squads losing their leader and needing someone to guide them to safety.

Jean has a very pragmatic way of thinking. Instead of thinking what works in theory, he also needs to be sure it works for real to attempt it. Not getting himself into situations that are dangerous is how he wants to manage. Unfortunately the world isn't as simple and he has to make some compromises, but whenever he can make a choice of protecting himself, he'd rather to that. Of course he values his friends and will throw away this way of thinking if they need him. This was of thinking was what made him want to join the Military Police - the safest faction on their world - but after experiencing a real battle and seeing his best friend, Marco, die, he made a choice to join the Survey Corps and put himself into danger.

Sometimes he acts more selfish than he actually is on purpose. It's no secret that he tends to think about himself over others, but he does care about his friends a lot, he just doesn't show it very well. He puts effort into helping them out, but sometimes makes it seem like it wasn't for them or because of them and end up arguing with said friends for that reason. His unselfish side is also shown when he puts himself in danger to stop a titan from approaching other soldiers, so that the mission wouldn't fail. He shows little to no hesitation when he makes up his mind to do something. He's also shown to be almost breaking apart when he has to make a decision of leaving someone behind and surviving with other soldiers. He knows there's nothing he can do about a situation like that, but he still regrets he let the situation go like that.

After humans started fighting humans inside the walls, Jean has been terrified by the fact that he might have to kill humans instead of titans. After almost dying because of hesitating to shoot a person, Jean needed to find his resolve and eventually was forced to kill for the first time. It was then he when he realized that his life had changed and he would have to change as well in order to survive.

Jean is also very skeptical by nature. He tends to suspect everything at the beginning and actually trusting something, or someone, takes some time. Especially the thought of humanity actually winning against titans feels like a it would be impossible, but after a few clear victories he's started to see a small glimpse of hope.

Jean's feelings for Mikasa give him more than just the feeling of admiration and desire. The feelings are very one-sided on the romantic side (Jean is continuously friend-zoned) and Mikasa is only interested in someone else - Eren. Jealousy has been a strong emotion from the start. Whenever Jean sees Mikasa close to Eren or going to him makes him feel like crap. He doesn't understand how a guy like Eren gets a beautiful girl like Mikasa. He also doesn't sympathize her for wanting to even throw her life away for Eren, even if he's ready to jump into danger to help her.

The resentment that has been a strong emotion surrounding Jean's opinion over Eren isn't the only feeling he feels towards the guy. There is also respect over his courage and his titan shifter abilities. While he still mostly thinks of him annoying for being so close to Mikasa, he tries to get along with him at least a bit more. Though he still doesn't understand why a rational person like Armin would be so dedicated towards Eren, but it doesn't change the fact he gets along with Armin rather well.

Abilities: Good leader under the pressure - can handle even most desperate situations. Skilled with using Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear, especially on the open terrain. Succeesed as one of the top 10 trainees in their military training. Also skilled with rifles.

Alignment: Thras. Jean has openly admitted that he's still afraid of titans, but he also knows he needs to fight them. He has the courage to stand up against his fears and fight. He's also shown bravery in diving to save his comrades and voicing his opinions against his superiors. He's over the part where fear would paralyze him - in fact, he sometimes uses his fears to fuel his determination.

Other: Even if I've had him twice in this game before, I'll be starting fresh with him with no memories of past visits.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

General Sample: TDM thread

Emotion Sample:

There was one thing that made Jean furious enough to set things around him on fire. That was hearing the word Eren over, and over, and over again. Eren this, Eren that. Normally he managed to mostly shrug it off, but today was one of the days that knocked him over the edge. So Jean sought himself a safe place to set things on fire and just let go off his restrains on his emotions.

The fires burned as he yelled in frustration and punched a nearby sign. They burned for a while as he breathed heavily in his annoyance, almost like a dragon huffing fire from his mouth.

Before long the sky above him turned gray and it started raining down on the fires around him, causing smoke to rise up and fill the air around him. After letting go of his anger the emotion that followed was grief. Then came the feeling of inferiority and just despair.

Would he ever be freed from Eren? Would he always, always be left in his shadow, even if he wasn't there? Jean stood in the rain for a long time, just surrendering to the negative feelings for a while to get them out of his system before going back to the house he and Mikasa lived in. He had caused enough pain with his outbursts already. He needed to cool down.
