Jean is a very honest and outspoken person. He doesn't have a problem with telling his opinion, however blunt they may be. Sometimes he tells his opinion at the risk of getting into trouble or making things around him even more complicated. That just means he thinks his opinions are important enough to be voiced, even if they would be different from the general ones. The opinions are sometimes even important enough to cause a plain old fist fight. Jean shows his temperament whenever he's arguing with someone near his own status and is not above using violence to sort things out.
He has a very pragmatic way of thinking. Instead of thinking what works in theory, he also needs to be sure it works for real to attempt it. Not getting himself into situations that are dangerous is how he wants to manage. Unfortunately the world isn't as simple and he has to make some compromises, but whenever he can make a choice of protecting himself, he'd rather do that. Of course he values his friends and will throw away this way of thinking if they need him. This was of thinking was what made him want to join the Military Police - the safest faction on their world - but after experiencing a real battle and seeing his best friend, Marco, die, he made a choice to join the Survey Corps and put himself into danger.
Sometimes he acts more selfish than he actually is on purpose. It's no secret that he tends to think about himself over others, but he does care about his friends a lot, he just doesn't show it very well. He puts effort into helping them out, but sometimes makes it seem like it wasn't for them or because of them and end up arguing with said friends for that reason. We see Jean's selfless, decisive side when he puts himself in danger to prevent a titan from attacking other soldiers and endangering the mission, a choice which he shows little hesitation in making. Having to leave a fellow soldier behind is agonizing for him, and he can hardly stand to do it; there was nothing he could do to change the situation, but he regrets that it happened anyway.
Jean is also very skeptical by nature. He tends to suspect everything at the beginning and actually trusting something, or someone, takes some time. Especially the thought of humanity actually winning against titans feels like a it would be impossible, but after a few clear victories he's started to see a small glimpse of hope.
After living in Verens for over a year, he's learned to control his fiery temperament a little better, thanks to the constant existence of emotion magic. He's also been able to find ways to enjoy his life and actually live like a normal teenager (well, with the exception of anything that isn't normal in Verens). His feelings for his crush, Mikasa, only grew as they lived together and eventually the two of them started dating. He has been loved in return.

Welcome Ring - Allows them to go to the White Cliffs and the Red Springs from Camelot at any time and back to Camelot. It only works personally and cannot travel anyone else who isn't wearing the ring. (Received on August '22)

Elphame Traders
かわいい小さな植物の男 (read: Kawaii chiisana shokubutsu no otoko) - This plant pot has a small happy face, arms, and legs. When you aren't looking at it, it moves around the house and protects it from pests, such as bugs, rats, or small uninvited beings. You can plant anything you want in the top, as long as there's something growing. (bought in February '22)
Bottomless Mug - Once you fill this glass with a particular liquid, it will replenish itself indefinitely as you drink it. If it is spilled or tipped out, the liquid will drain so you can change to a different type of drinkable liquid. Note: Does not work with potions or enchanted liquids. Now with a new, more modern design featuring double-walled enchanted borosilicate glass to maintain temperature of hot drinks! (bought in January '22)
Enchanted Pink Calcite - A stone that brings peace and wellbeing by warding off nightmares. Uses magic to improve mood, often used by medical mages to assist with mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. (bought here)
Enchanted Rope - This rope has a series of knots in it. When placed at the bottom of a ledge, it will position itself upward for climbing without fastening it with carabiners, grapples, or anchors. Up to 15 feet max. (bought here)
Floral Illuminator - This necklace contains a small magical pearl and a magical lotus in a vial. Whisper "please light the way" to the bottle and it will cause all flowers within a 100 foot range to faintly glow, providing light in the dark. (bought here)
Shopkeeper Permit - Open up your own business with a shopkeeper permit! Can only be purchased after you pass 2 AC rounds. Purchase this and the Elphame traders will cover set-up costs for your business regardless of location. (bought in Feb '22)
Toto's Totem - This ring only works if you have a place to call your own in Avalon. It will not work if a character is still living in an inn room. Kiss your ring and whisper "There's no Place Like Home" three times. No matter where you are in the world, you will be teleported back to your bed at your home in Avalon. This totem does not break after use and will continue to work as long as it is not damaged. One-way only. (bought in March '22)

Dry Spell - Create an invisible barrier against rain above your head. It only works from above, so don't try to use it to repel water in other ways- it won't part the seas or let you walk under water. (bought here)
Fluffificatio - Instantly make anything "Fluffy." Hairstyles, pancakes, and more! Revive sunken souffles, instantly transform outfits into fluffy fashion! When combined with Cognitive magic, this spell has a special effect that can cause "fluffy" feelings (elation). If you can figure out how to fluff it, you can Fluffificatio it. (Bought from Elphame Traders in July)
Inspirioss - This spell can clear writer/artist/musician/other creative block. No wonder summer is the time to get inspired. Side effects include sprouting a verbena from the top of your head. (Don't worry, it's painless to pluck.) (learned from Mossatees)
Maglinis (Clean Up) - Purifies water from natural contaminents, making it safe to drink. Does not provide immunity against magic cast upon the water. Only works small-scale (one bottle/glass at a time). (Bought from Elphame Traders in January)
Seal of Approval - When you agree with someone, use this spell! An aquatic seal will teleport into the view and boop its nose into the approved thing and/or person and then teleport back to where it came! (Received as a reward for Knight Quest May/2022)
Wire Writhe - A spell that pulls wires out of the nearest machine to tie up whoever the spell is directed at. The wires seem to have a prehensile movement to them and move automatically to readjust according to the captive's movements to prevent easy escape. (bought here)
Recipes
Trusted Totem - This totem cannot be communicated to others. It can be used to transport yourself and 1 other person via handholding, but they have to trust you as you cannot tell them where you are taking them when using one. The Trusted Totem will take them directly to Nicnevin's main tree, bypassing the wet entryway. It cannot be used alone, accidentally, or against someone's will. (Received from Queen Elphame)
