[Armin is...intrigued to see what a real pair of animal ears might look on a person, but aside from all of that, Armin's just happy to see his friend. Jean and Mikasa both seem so happy together, and this world is so mild compared to their own (at least, it seems that way so far) - maybe they really do all have a chance at peace here. It's still strange to think about.
[It's what Jean deserves.
[...
[He is really curious to see those ears though; so, he's been excited for tonight. He knocks on Jean's door. He's been here a few times, but not enough - never enough - to just let himself in.]
[Jean is tempted to just yell that Armin should just walk in, but instead he walks to the door. He's a bit restless on a full moon night like this, so he wants to walk around.
When he opens the door Armin will see that he has two brown and very fluffy wolf ears on his head and they look like they naturally belong there. There's also a very fluffy tail going back and forth ( = wagging ) behind him because a friend! A friend came to visit!]
How many times do we have to tell you that you can just walk in?
[He does also have fangs that show up when he talks. But that's the limit to his werewolf transformation aesthetically.]
[ It's probably during a break in training that Levi stalks up to Jean and once again shoves something in his hands. This time, the package is much smaller, wrapped in brown paper. It contains a Safety Pin. ]
[ Then there's a silence. Then; ]
For when you're away from Mikasa.
[ Honestly, he hadn't been sure if he should get them the pins for this reason. Mikasa is about the one non-titan-shifter person he trusts to get shit done with the same or similar efficiency as he does. But, well. It can't hurt. ]
[ He will give her one after this exchange, too. ]
[Lo and behold! Ears! A huge smile breaks out instantly across Armin's face, and he lets out a breathless laugh. He's so blown away by the transformation that he doesn't even argue about knocking vs. walking in.]
Jean, you're...[He laughs again, but it's a joyous thing, not at all mocking or teasing. He's amazed!]
This is amazing! It's...adorable, actually.
[He's aware of his faux pas in saying so, especially given their inaugural conversation, but he can't help it! There's a pair of puppy ears on his friend's head, and his tail is wagging! It's charming!]
[Jean feels his cheeks becoming red over the genuine joy Armin seems to be feeling. His fluffy wolf tail continues to wag, since Jean is preening over the compliments, but it mostly shows as embarrassment - but tail was even more honest than he was. The traitor.]
J-Just come inside already!
[Undecided on what to say or how to react he just marches into the living room, expecting Armin to follow.]
[Jean's not sure what he expects. He's seen the same pin at Riki's Shop before. It seemed useful, but he always had something else to buy. Well, that's one item off that list...]
I guess this means I'm nowhere near ready yet.
[He says without thinking. He really needs a filter-]
[ Really, Jean, it's not that he doesn't trust you, buuuuuut... ]
[ If he doesn't do everything he can and something happens, he won't be able to make peace with it. Never again, his mind chants insistently whenever he thinks of Jean's lonely form on that frozen lake, courtesy of Hijikata's story. He just can't allow it. It's as simple as that. ]
[ He considers telling him how nobody ever is truly "ready" to die, but then, he's been proven wrong on that, hasn't he? He's bearing the scars of that mistake. So it's best that he doesn't put it in anybody else's head, lest it gets repeated. ]
There's no shame in taking precautions.
[ Just in case Jean is turning this into some weird not-being-good-enough self-flagellation in his head. Making sure Mikasa doesn't need to suffer his death a second time is more important than trying to look cool to strangers, right? Now put on that construction helmet, Jean... ]
[Jean nods and then puts the pin onto his shirt. It doesn't look that strange anyway, to have a pin on your clothes. Just like the floating cape(s) worked well under his Survey Corps one.]
I'll have to set it up after training.
[Even if setting it up now would save him from pain, but it would probably hinder with training :| ]
[And here Armin always thought he had a pretty solid understanding of how Eren felt about Reiner; still, in the flying boat, Reiner had insight on Eren that none of them saw coming...In that way, it make sense. Even so...]
Honestly, I never would have expected that. Eren's never really seemed that interested in dating or anything like that. Though, I guess he has been here a while.
Not much opportunity for that sort of thing back home.
[...]
Does it seem a little weird to you, or am I crazy? Maybe not weird, but unexpected?
[Armin follows, only slightly (okay, maybe more than slightly) amused by Jean's reaction. He won't keep pressing the issue though (but gosh - it's amazing isn't it? And it really is adorable too--).]
How did you end up with an ability like this? It's fascinating.
I've heard that you can work your way up to transformations through your season's abilities - is that it?
I know how to do animal transformations, but wolf isn't part of the summer animal pool.
[He doesn't remember which it belongs to right now, but he would guess autumn or winter.]
This is a curse I got from this world. It happens for the three days during full moon. Sort of like a werewolf? But a lot milder.
[He's not really ready to tell Armin about how he got cursed. Armin was still settling in and he didn't need the addition of finding out a friend of his died. He would tell him, eventually, just... not now.
So distraction from how to something else.]
... well, did you want to pet them? Evangeline told you I'd let you, didn't she?
