I don't know how it worked since it wasn't a magic I personally had, I just know it happened. I even got to test it once and got like a defence boost or something.

It was really all about your magic combination was, what you could do with Technomancy.

[ and so, sometime after the whole death and bad communication saga comes to an end and levi has (hopefully) been ungrounded, he's at jean's door again. it's been a while. he hadn't really come by much since hange showed up, not needing the existence handshakes anymore, but that doesn't mean he's not still keeping tabs on his favorite kids subordinates even when they're not training together. ]

[Jean isn't expecting anyone for a visit, but that knock sure is still familiar from the days existence handshakes were a thing. So he knows it's Levi before opening the door, but that doesn't stop him from looking surprised when he opens it.]

[ Levi stares at him for a long moment, then shoves a small brown paper package into his hands. ]

[ (It contains a Floating Cape. Somehow that's both a show of care and a sick burn at once, considering the way Jean had perished on his mission last month...) ]

[Jean receives the brown paper package. Judging by the size it's not another peach. Curious, he opens the package... it's a very familiar looking cape he bought himself not even a week ago.

His initial reaction is a kick to his gut. Levi obviously does mean well, getting him that so he could stay safe. But this was also a clear jab at him. It's why he's not saying anything for a good while, instead just staring at the cape blankly, clearly knowing what it was and why it was.

But he does eventually just look back at Levi properly.]

[He's been calling him Levi a lot, but calling him Captain is clearly a sign of "Fuck you". Though the thank you is genuine, somehow.]

[ Levi doesn't even seem to notice, mostly because the former cadet he spends the most time with calls him "Captain" literally the entire time so it's not jarring in the slightest. He might make a note of it because it's Jean, but honestly, it's whatever. ]

I expect you to never need it.

[ A sort of an olive branch for the burn, perhaps. Or maybe he's just saying that all his and Mikasa's training would better not be in vain, who knows. ]

[ But even with all that preparation... he wants him to have a Plan C. Just in case. ]

[That does make him feel a little better, at least. It's still a bit of a sore gift, but if he doesn't expect Jean to actually need it, it was ... better. Better than assuming he would need it.]
